Salomon City Trail Manila on September 7

Whether you run for the thrill of it, to stay fit of healthy, or both, get ready for a more enjoyable running routine as Salomon promotes Citytrail running, inspired from its mountain trail running heritage. Alongside the launch of Salomon’s Citytrail products, the brand is happily prepping to host the first-ever event in the Philippines following its success in different countries including the U.S., and select countries in Europe and Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. After much deliberation, the Salomon Citytrail Manila is set to launch on September 7, 2014 at Intramuros, Manila.

The oldest city in the Philippines, The Walled City was deemed perfect for an adventure run that will not only be challenging and exciting with its dynamic urban landscape, but rich with culture and heritage as well. Even more enticing is the fact that the race starts at 4PM, which means the runners will experience all these amid the Manila sunset –the best time to explore and absorb the old fortress.

The sunset run is set to target at least 500 participants made up of adventure seekers, road runners, weekend warriors, fitness buffs, and trail running enthusiasts. Divided into two categories of 12km and 6km, the course will not be a conventional road run and will include challenges such as climbing stairs, crossing bridges, and clambering ramps around the Walled City. Foot strikes on different surfaces, ascends on bridges and stairs will stimulate trail running skills while rediscovering Philippine heritage and culture. Salomon brand ambassadors, Philippine Sky Runners & Suunto Athletes will be the assigned to selected areas to marshal and guide the participants in the running tour. The cutoff time for the whole race is two hours.

HOW TO REGISTER:
The registration will be open from August 1 to August 29 at the Salomon stores and August 30 to September 5 at R.O.X. Bonifacio High Street. Participants may also register online (http://www.runnersrunner.com/2014sctp/).

___________________________________________________________________

You may want to reach the very summit of Mariveles, but it is Tarak Ridge, on Mt. Mariveles’ west face, that has gained much attention. Its craggy landscape, sharp rocks, and steep location may have given rise to its name, Tarak, which is somewhat of a cross between ‘Tabak’ (hunting knife) and ‘Tarik’ (steep). There is a scenic, 270-degree view of Bataan which includes the islands of Corregidor and neighboring islands, as well as Manila Bay all the way to Cavite.

The trails of Tarak can be divided into two. The first part involves wide trails, at times dense grasslands that ends in Papaya river (a rest station and water source). Then the next part involves woodlands, steep trails in which you can hold on to branches and roots for support. This way leads you to Tarak Ridge. (source: pinoymountaineer)

Mt. Ugo Trail Half-Marathon: Ain't No Mountain High Enough

I fell in love with Mt. Ugo since the first time I'd been there. I love the trails, the scenic views and the fresh air that it offers. Last Sunday, the 3rd edition of the King of the Mountain was held there and never would I miss it. Joy, Joyce and me joined the 21k category while Allan, Dennis, Jonard, JC, Mamu Doug and Riz registered for 42k.

The route was an out and back run. The 42k runners' turn around point is in the summit while the 21k runners' in Mt. Samento.

Twenty minutes before the gun start, we assembled at the starting line and did some photo ops. I uttered a simple prayer, which I normally do before we go. Then 3.. 2.. 1.. Off we went. It was still dark, we only had our headlamps to light our path.
